Windows to Linux

When upgrading your package from a Windows-based platform to a Linux-based platform, your website has to be transferred. It is important that you start by downloading your website locally on your PC or possibly an external unit. Thereafter your website has to be uploaded to your new account within the given timeframe to avoid possible downtime.

How to make a local copy from your Windows account

The easiest way to download your website from your Windows account is to copy the files located on the server through your FTP program or your web browser (E.g. Internet Explorer). Here follows a step-by-step description of how to copy the files:

1. Start by creating the folder in which you wish to save the copy of your website.

2. Open your web browser and type ftp://yourusername@yourdomainname.XX in the address bar.
(The newest version of Internet Explorer (7.0) will show the following message: “To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.” Just follow the instructions and continue to the next step.)

3. Type in your FTP username and password in the login box. Login details are found in MyAccount under Web -> Get Started.

4. When you have logged on and your files and folders are displayed, press Ctrl+A to select all content. Now you can either drag-and-drop the files in the folder which you recently created. Or you can press Ctrl+C, which are the shortcut keys for copy. Open the folder in which you want to save your local copy and press Ctrl+V to paste the content in that folder.

Upload to your Linux account

2. Enter your FTP password in the login box.

3. You will now see a folder with your domain name as folder name. Double click this folder.

4. If you have a plain web site without CGI-scripts, all content should be uploaded in the “www” folder now visible. Double click the “www” folder. In the folder on your PC where you have your local copy. Press Ctrl+A to select all content. Go back to your web browser and press Ctrl+V to paste all the content onto the server.

T
he hostname when using an FTP client is always: ftp.newweb.active24.com

- The start page has to be located directly in the “www” folder.

- Linux accounts do not support FrontPage Server Extensions and FrontPage created websites.
